SCJLS awards banquet features Herdsman Awards, buckles and checks

The annual George Blackburn Memorial Herdsman Awards were announced Thursday night, Jan. 24, at the awards banquet for the 2019 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale. The event also included the annual buckle presentations for the grand and reserve champions and showmanship winners, as well as the distribution of the checks from the sale.

The Herdsman Award is named after the late George Blackburn, a former Stephens County Extension Agent, said Glenda Knight, who served as the co-chairman of the Showmanship Division for the SCJLS.

To be a herdsman applicant, the stock show exhibitors had to sign up to participate and then write an  essay about their stock show project, complete their record book and be interviewed by a committee. The winners received belt buckles.

  • Junior Poultry Herdsman – Hannah Moreno
  • Senior Poultry Herdsman – Rianna Maynard
  • Junior Rabbit Herdsman – Rebecca Moreno
  • Senior Rabbit Herdsman – Nathan Tatum
  • Senior Sheep Herdsman – Jacee Poindexter
  • Junior Goat Herdsman – Regan Armstrong
  • Senior Goat Herdsman – Braden Campbell
  • Junior Swine Herdsman – Jack McKay
