Arlene Weldon Martin died in Breckenridge, Texas, on Wednesday, January 10, 2019. She was 96.

Mrs. Martin was born on April 8, 1922, in Harmon County, Oklahoma, to her parents, Nancy Jane Casey and William Andrew Jackson Weldon. Educated at Vinson, Oklahoma, she married JD Martin in 1938. The Martins moved to Amarillo, Texas, in 1939, Phillips, Texas, in 1940, and then Fritch, Texas, in the 1980s. She retired from Sears in 1981 and went to work for Bulla’s Jewelry until they sold in the mid-1980s. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Borger, Texas, for 70 years, finally moving to Graham in 2013 to live near her son. Mrs. Martin was a loving Mother and Mammaw, and enjoyed gardening, volunteering with her church, knitting, and the Red Hat Ladies.

Mrs. Martin was preceded by her husband, JD Martin; and her daughters, Sandra Irene Vaughan of Lubbock, Texas, and Nancy Lou Shawn of Pampa, Texas; as well as her six brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her son, Jesse D. Martin of Graham, Texas; grandchildren, including Jesse Don McKinney, Dalena Kay Tarver, Ross Johnson, Benny Watson, Bill Watson, Jessica Ann Martin, Lisa Lynn Kirk, Tammy Jo Williams, and Jordan Blair Dodson; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Martin will be buried in a private ceremony on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Cave Creek Cemetery in Vinson, Oklahoma, Harmon County. A memorial will take place immediately following. The graveside services are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. All are welcome to stay after service and celebrate Mrs. Martin’s life and enjoy some good country food.
