Turkey Trot kicks off Thanksgiving holiday at North Elementary
Breckenridge’s North Elementary School students ran their annual Turkey Trot this morning, Friday, Nov. 16, on the last day of school before the Thanksgiving break begins.
Family members attended to watch the kids run the one-mile route, with some of the adults participating in the run/walk. The school’s principal, Jennifer Gillard, and office receptionist, Vicki Mercer, dressed in turkey-themed costumes for the event.
Those entering the race brought a canned good or other non-perishable food item as an entry fee. All food collected will be donated to the Cafe Love at First United Methodist Church.
The event was organized by PE teacher Tamara Russell, along with other teachers and staff at North Elementary. The Breckenridge Fire Department and Police Department helped out by blocking some of the busier parts of the route, making it safe for the kids.
The winners in this year’s race included Adam Arrellano, Tucker Baugh, Rylee Brown, Hunter Davis, Landon Elting, Keptyn Escobar, Travis Forder, Elizabeth Hoffine, Keltyn Jackson, Colton Kempton, Henson McClymond, Brylon Reyes, Kaden Shook, Malaki Smith, Truett Trammel, Ryan Waller, Cooper Wimberley and Slayden Young.
After school is dismissed on Friday afternoon, the students and staff of Breckenridge schools will have nine days off for the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will resume on Monday, Nov. 26.
