Buckaroos to travel to Jim Ned for first district football game of season
After taking last Friday off as a bye week, the Breckenridge Buckaroos varsity football team will travel to Jim Ned High School’s Indian Stadium tonight, Oct. 12, for the first district game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Jim Ned Indians have a 4-1 season record so far this year, having lost only to Mason High School. In their winning games, the Indians have had two shut-outs this year — 69-0 against Coleman and 49-0 against Brady.
Last year, Jim Ned lost in the Area round of the playoffs to Wall High School.
The Buckaroos’ record in pre-district play is 2-3, which is better than last year’s 0-5 that they had going into the district schedule. After a rough pre-district record last year, Breckenridge went on to win all five district games, claiming the district championship before falling to Merkel in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
This year, the UIL district realignments have put Breckenridge in a different district, 3-3A-Division 1, facing Jim Ned, Eastland, Early, Wall and Clyde.
Breckenridge last played Jim Ned in 2013, and overall, the Buckaroos have a winning record of 5-1 over the Indians in recent history.
Jim Ned High School is part of the Jim Ned Consolidated Independent School District, in Tuscola, located south of Abilene. Tonight’s forecast for that area includes a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms at game time.
