A crowd gathered at Breckenridge’s ResourceCare Community Health Center on Thursday, Aug. 16, for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new building. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the facility.

The building is more than 9,000 square feet and features 16 medical exam rooms and five dental exam rooms, as well as a counselor’s office.

“Each medical room has active touch screens for patients to use while waiting,” said Scott Byrd, chairman of the ResourceCare board. “While they’re sitting there waiting, they can pull up information. They can get information on many different topics. For example, it’ll have a screen that comes up about diabetes, and you can click on that and get a tutorial on diabetes.”

The new building is connected to the original facility at 2802 W. Walker St., which will be used  for administrative offices now. Additionally, the middle section of the original building will be remodeled and used for behavioral health services, said Meagan Marshall, CEO of ResourceCare.

“One reason we expanded was because when we outgrew that building, we grew so fast that the flow wasn’t efficient for our patient load,” Marshall said. “With the new facility, we were able to add four new exam rooms; plus the flow is so much faster, we’re able to get more patients through.”

Dr. Cynthia Perry, a member of the Breckenridge staff, said that she was recently asked how she feels about the new building. “Of course, we’re blessed and thrilled to have it,” she said to the crowd at the ribbon cutting. “But then I started thinking. ResourceCare is not this building; it’s the people we serve and all those people you see out in those blue shirts (the clinic’s staff members). They’ll do anything they can to help our patients, and I just feel so blessed to work here. And, now we have a beautiful building to work in, but we love our patients, and that’s where our heart is.”

In addition to offering services at the new Breckenridge facility, ResourceCare also has clinics in Albany, Clyde, Cross Plains, Merkel and Baird.

The local health center offers medical, dental and counseling services, as well as case management. The medical clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the fourth Saturday of each month. Dental services are offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
