Fire department wins Battle of the Badges blood drive for second year in a row

The results of the 2018 Breckenridge Battle of the Badges blood drive are in — and the Breckenridge Fire Department is the winner for the second year in a row.
“We just appreciate the community for coming out and donating blood,” said Calvin Chaney, BFD Fire Chief. “It’s not about us; it’s about who all we can help in the community.”
The blood drive, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Breckenridge and Carter Blood Care, allowed those donating blood to vote for the fire department, the Breckenridge Police Department or the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department. According to Colleen Horan, a consultant with Carter Blood Care, 43 units of blood were collected over the three-day drive in June.
“This is the second year for Breckenridge to have the Battle of the Badges,” Horan said. “This is an annual thing we do in the summertime because we don’t have our largest donor group — high school students — available in the summer.”
The Rotary Club’s next blood drive will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at First National Bank.
