As the summer heat begins to bear down on the city, some residents are escaping the heat at the swimming pool at the Breckenridge Aquatic Center.

During his report on the Breckenridge Aquatic Center to commissioners at last week’s City Commissioner’s meeting, Public Services Director Stacy Harrison said the pool opened on Tuesday, May 29, and had an average of 81 patrons each of the 12 sessions they had to-date, which is about 60 percent of the pool’s capacity.

“For this week, we’ve ran a little over 1,100 folks through there, with swimming lessons, aerobics parties and pool sessions,” he said.

Harrison said they have set aside four nights for family fun night this summer. They will be the last two Thursdays nights in June and the last two Thursday nights in July.

The swimming pool is open for regular swimming sessions from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Sundays. The pool is closed on Mondays. The pool will be open through Sunday, Aug. 5.

The cost per session is $2.50 per person. Children 3 years old and under are admitted free. All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent.

Adult water aerobics are also offered at the pool at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday – Friday. The cost for admission to the aerobics class is the $2.50 pool session fee.

Swimming lessons for kids are also offered at the pool during the week. For more information on the costs and schedule for lessons, call the Breckenridge City Offices at 254-559-8287
