The final “Battle of the Badges” blood drive starts today, Saturday, June 9, at 9 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. at First National Bank in downtown Breckenridge.

The event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Breckenridge, allows blood donors to vote for one of three local first-responder groups — the Breckenridge Fire Department, the Breckenridge Police Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Last year, the fire department won by one vote, said Sherry Strickland, Rotary Club Secretary.

Today’s blood drive will be the last of three days of blood drives. On Thursday, 21 people donated blood, and with an hour still left at Friday’s blood drive, at least nine people had donated.

“We’re just so pleased to see so many people donating blood,” Strickland said.

The winner of the Battle of the Badges will be announced at a later date, she said.

For more information, call Sherry or Les Strickland at 254-522-1959.
