Birdhouse contest winners chosen during Trade Days
Birdhouses of many shapes and sizes were presented for judging at the City of Breckenridge Parks Department’s fourth annual Birdhouse Contest on Saturday, March 17, during Breck Trade Days.
In the Youth Division, Myia Jackson won first place with her entry “Living the Simple Life.” Brysen Hash won second place with his entry, “‘T’ Birds Nest,” and third place went to his brother Reyse Hash with his entry “Buckshot’s Roost.” Myia Jackson also won most creative.
In the Adult Division, first place went to Dana Boggs with her entry, “Pickin and Chirpin’.” Second place went to James Dean II with his entry, “The Wren Inn,” and third place went to Sacred Cross EMS with their miniature Sacred Cross Ambulance entry. Most creative was won by Emilio Mendoza with his entry “Breckenridge Park House.”
The judges for the contest were Dick and Connie Garcia and Rhonda Crawford. All the entries will be hung in Birdhouse Park, located at the corner of Baylor Avenue and Hullum Street, as well as in other areas of the Breckenridge City Park.
The entries were judged on creativity, construction and usability as a birdhouse. First, second and third place winners were awarded in both the adult (age 18 and older) and youth (age 17 and younger) contests. First Place received $100; Second Place, $75; Third Place, $50; and Most Creative, $25. Winners also received other prizes, including bird feeders and waterers.
