Breckenridge mayoral election set for May 5

The City of Breckenridge has officially set the date of the upcoming mayoral election for Saturday, May 5.

The ballot will also include the two City Commissioner places that are up for election this year; both of those candidates are unopposed.

Running for mayor are Allena McElyea Duncan and Bob Sims. Russell Blue and Rob Durham are running for Commissioner Place 1 and Commissioner Place 2, respectively.

All eligible voters of the City of Breckenridge may vote for all of the positions.

Early voting will begin on Monday, April 23, and continue through Tuesday, May 1. Early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for April 23 and 24, when it will be offered from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting will be conducted at the City Offices, 105 North Rose Ave.

The polling location for election day will be in the City Commission Chambers at 105 North Rose Ave.

The last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 5. To register to vote, go to the Stephens County Tax Office/Voter Registrar’s office and fill out a voter registration application. If you have lost your voter registration card, call the tax office/voter registrar at 254-559-2732 or 254-559-6513 and they can issue you a duplicate card. If you have moved since you registered, you will need to go by the tax office/voter registrar and fill out an address change form.

To vote on Election Day or during the Early Voting period, a voter must have one of the following forms of ID as required by the Texas Secretary of State:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Department of Public Safety. NOTE: This form of ID should not be used if “Limited Term” or “Temporary Visitor” appears on the face of the card as this indicates the person is not a U.S. citizen.
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS.
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS. Note: This form of ID should not be used if “Limited Term” or “Temporary Visitor” appears on the face of the card as this indicates the person is not a U.S. Citizen.
  • Texas License to Carry a Handgun issued by DPS.
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph.
  • United States Citizenship Certificate/Certificate of Naturalization containing the person’s photograph.
  • United States Passport.; Note: A “passport card” which is also issued by the U.S. Department of State, is acceptable.
