Malcolm Bales, age 95 of Breckenridge, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Malcolm Alexander Bales was born on October 29, 1922, to Marcus Alexander Bales and Essie Jane Ratliff Bales in Winters, Texas. On October 29, 1942, Malcolm married Wanna Marie Lynch in Littlefield, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1943, and served as an Army Corporal in World War II. The family moved to Breckenridge from Lubbock in 1974, and he worked for himself as a carpenter and building contractor. Malcolm enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved traveling and was a member of the RV Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Essie Bales; four brothers, and one granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Wanna Bales; two daughters, Rita Karen Ratcliff and husband Robert of Marshall, and Lana Grisham and husband Richard of Breckenridge; one son, Lanny Bales and wife Linda of Breckenridge; one sister, Glendolyn Phillips and husband Harold of Levelland; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
