January 30
12:51 2018

The Breckenridge Whisker Getters, a local group dedicated to fishing for catfish, will host the second annual Hubbard Creek Hawgz Catfish Classic, a tournament to raise funds for a scholarship.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24, at Paul Prater Landing, located at 3117 County Road 318, off of FM 3099. Registration will be that morning from 5:30 to 6 a.m., and there will be a Captain Meeting at 6:30 a.m. The rules state “poles in the water at 7 a.m., poles out of the water at 5 p.m.” Weigh-in will be at 5:30 p.m., and any team showing up at the ramp after 5:30 p.m. will be disqualified.

The entry fee will be $150 per team, and there can be up to three people per team. There’s a 10-pole limit per team. There will be a five-fish limit at weigh-in. If any teams bring in more than five fish, the largest fish will be tossed out. All fish must be brought in alive.

There will be a 80 percent payout of 55/15/10. Twenty percent of the funds collected will go toward the 2018 scholarship the organization will give away. Last year, the group gave its first $1,000 scholarship to Weston Stone.
