Shirley Spain
Shirley Mae Garrell Spain transitioned into eternity Thursday, January 18, surrounded by those that loved her unconditionally. Shirley was born October 22, 1939, in Reidsville, North Carolina, to Gordon and Mozelle Garrell (both deceased). She has called Breckenridge, Texas, her home since 1977. Visitation will be held at 2 pm, Sunday January 21, at Morehart Mortuary followed immediately by a service of remembrance at 3 pm. Burial will follow in South Prairie Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Hall officiating and friends will be accepted preceding the service and at other times at her son’s home at 606 S. Graham Ave.
Shirley will be remembered for her love of cooking, knitting, as well as her love of hummingbirds and especially for being the queen of bargains. All her family and friends, has at one time been a recipient of one of her “quarter” bargain finds and a butter tub filled with leftovers.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Mack Allen Spain, Sr., and her grandsons, Byron Light and Chris Weatherington. She is survived by her children, Evelyn Demson (Jim), Eric Cowan, Beverly Cayton and Ron Cowan (Marlina); four step-children, Mack Spain, Jr, Sarah McClelland, Mackie Sue Schlegal and Mary Marsh; grandchildren, James, Adam, Katie and Ben Cowan, Jesse Cowan and Aaron Light; step-grandchildren, Trey Spain, Eric, Christina, Pierce, Brighton, Jon, Megan and Gevin Beauchamp; and 10 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Ray and Richard Garrell and Nancy Brammer. In addition, she leaves behind her special friend, Rosella Humphreys, and fur baby, Duchess.
The family would like to thank Solaris Health Care – Hospice for the care given to Shirley and the support they extended to the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Solaris Health Care – Hospice in Breckenridge, Texas.
