Adam Babilon was sworn in on Tuesday morning as Interim Stephens County Constable by Stephens County Judge Gary Fuller. He will replace Dan Young, who resigned in December to run for Justice of the Peace.

Babilon was appointed to fill the position by County Commissioners during their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 8. He ran for the position during the 2016 election and was defeated by Young. While serving as constable, he will continue to serve as bailiff in the 90th District Court in Breckenridge, where he has served since 2012.

In other business on Monday, commissioners acknowledged a certificate of attendance award for Christie Latham, Stephens County Tax Assessor-Collector, for completion of 30.50 hours of continued education and for Christie Coapland, Stephens County District Clerk, for completion of 20 hours of continued education.

They also approved surety bonds for Kristi Strawbridge, Deputy County Clerk, and accepted and filed a surety bond for Valerie Gallegos, Deputy Tax Assessor/Collector.

Additionally, commissioners approved a road crossing request by the Stephens Regional Special Utility District for County Road 274 in Precinct 4. The utility district will install a 4-inch PVC pipe across the road, ditched encased in an 8-inch PVC pipe.

Commissioners also voted to keep the county-wide burn ban in place.
