Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations for annual awards

December 29
12:45 2017

The community spoke, and the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce listened. The annual awards presentation has been moved to February to avoid any confusion with the annual banquet and fundraising auction.

In the recent past, the awards dinner was in October, just a few weeks before banquet. “We listened to the feedback and moved the awards dinner to Feb. 1,” said Rhonda Rogers-Crawford, executive director of the Chamber.

One of the benefits of having the awards ceremony in February is that the previous year is completely finished and the nominations can be considered for achievements that happened all the way through the end of December.

The awards include Citizen of the Year, Agricultural Citizen of the Year, and Business of the Year.

The process for choosing the people and businesses honored with the awards begins with nominations from the general public.

“As active as the Chamber is in the community, we don’t see everything, so we’re depending on citizens to help us out (with nominations,” Rogers-Crawford said. “Tell us about deserving people!”

To nominate a business or individual for an award, send their name and an explanation as to why you think they should receive the award (in 500 words or less) to the Chamber.

Nominations may be submitted through any of the following:

All nominations will remain confidential and are due at the Chamber by Friday, Jan. 5.

The 2016 honorees were:

  • Citizen of the Year: Virgil and Elaine Moore
  • Ag Citizen of the Year: Mike Fields
  • Business of the Year: R. E. Dye Manufacturing Corporation

For more information, call the Chamber at 254-559-2301.
