Several members of First United Methodist Church gathered recently to bake more than 100 pies for the church’s upcoming community Turkey Dinner, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 16.

The annual event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the FUMC Christian Life Center, 419 W. Walker St.  Tickets cost $12 each and are available at the church office, from FUMC members and at First National Bank and Breckenridge Interbank. Funds raised through the event will be used to support a variety of church programs.

There are 800 tickets available this year, more than in previous years, said Sheila Tonne, who was helping bake pies. Typically, about half of the meals are served “to-go” via the drive-through service.

To help ease the cooking schedule on the day of the dinner, the pies are baked ahead of time – from scratch – and frozen. This year, with so many pies to bake, the pumpkin and pecan pies were on separate days.

The rest of the food will be cooked on the day of the event, so that it will all be as fresh as possible.

The Turkey Dinner also includes a bake sale and a “Country Store,” featuring a variety of items, including homemade canned goods, jellies, salsa, craft items and more. Additionally, there will be door prizes and a raffle for a quilt donated to the church.

The meal will include turkey, dressing, green beans, new potatoes, fruit salad, rolls, cranberry sauce, pie and beverage (for the dine-in only).

For more information, call the church at 254-559-8208.
