Breckenridge Fire Chief Calvin Chaney announced on Monday morning, Oct. 2, that the county-wide burn ban was back in full effect. He said they were no longer allowing any exceptions for burning.

“We had too many fires this weekend that got away, from being left unattended, to lighting them in high grass” Chaney said.

Stephens County Commissioners voted to continue the county-wide burn ban at their Sept. 23 meeting. However, the fire department had been making exceptions on a case-by-case basis to allow some burning following recent rains. But after the problems this weekend, Chaney said there would be no more burning allowed while the burn ban was in effect.
