07:33 2017

The City of Breckenridge and Breckenridge Police Department will hold their sixth annual National Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Stephens County Law Enforcement Center, 210 E. Dyer St.

National Night Out is an annual, national event designed to strengthen community spirit and partnerships with law enforcement and first responders, generate support for community organizations and programs, and raise crime prevention awareness.

This event has been held around the nation for more than 30 years, and this is the sixth year for the event to be held in Breckenridge.

BPD Capt. J. Walker, who heads up the event, said it provides a positive way for the police department and other agencies to get out and meet the community. He said that over the years he’s seen a great response from both the community and the agencies that participate in the event.

“Every year, it seems like it’s getting bigger and doing well, which I really appreciate,” Walker said.

During the event, people from the community will be able to meet and talk to representatives from different law enforcement agencies and other emergency services, get a close-up look at some of their gear and vehicles and gain a better understanding of what their jobs entail.

During the event, food and drinks will be served and there will be games and prizes, child ID and fingerprinting and a live DJ and music from Q94.7 FM.

Some of the groups expected to participate this year include the Breckenridge Police Department and 9-1-1 Call Center, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Fire Department and Code Enforcement, AIR EVAC Lifeteam, Texas Department of Public Safety, Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, Stephens Memorial Hospital, Sacred Cross EMS, Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, Stephens County Animal Welfare Center, Dr. Goodall’s House-CAC/CASA, Stephens County adult and juvenile probation office, city/county/district court officers, MHMR/Betty Hardwick Center, Central West Texas COG, Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, Texas State Technical College and local civic and business organizations.
