The Buckaroos suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Dublin Lions Friday night in the Breckenridge High School 2017 Homecoming game. The final score was 24-27 in favor of the Lions.

Breckenridge scored early when No. 10 Jose Escobedo kicked a 28-yard field goal 4:33 into the game. Seven minutes later, Dublin scored a touchdown. The point after was no good, so with 32 seconds left in the first quarter, the score was 3-6.

Just after the beginning of the second quarter, No. 12 Owen Woodward threw the ball to No. 25 Zach Willis, who ran it in for the touchdown. Escobedo made the extra point, making it 10-6.

Before the quarter was over, No. 8 Terrance Roberson ran in a hand-off from Woodward, and the Escobedo kick was good. Score at the half: 17-6 in favor of Breckenridge.

In the third quarter, another Woodward-to-Roberson play resulted in the fourth Buckaroo score of the night; and another good kick by Escobedo, gave BHS a lead of 24 to 6.

That was the last time Breckenridge would score in the game. But, the Lions weren’t giving up. They scored a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and the two-point conversion moved them to within striking distance – 24-20.

With 4:39 left in the game, the Dublin Lions made the last score of the game, taking it to a final of Breckenridge 24, Dublin 27.

During the halftime, the Homecoming Court was presented to the crowd, and the Homecoming Queen was crowned. The 2017 Homecoming Queen is Suri Alvarado, daughter of Marta and David Alvarado. This year’s Homecoming King, who was announced at the Buckaroo pep rally Friday morning, is Anthony Pichler, son of Jim and Jane Ann Pichler.
