Wanda “Polly” Stockton, age 88 of Albany, passed away Monday, Aug. 14, 2017. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, in the Johnson Cemetery with Rev. Bob Knowles officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.
Wanda “Polly” Louise Mitchell was born on Sept. 22, 1928, to parents, Llano V. Mitchell and Minnie Mae Hearne Mitchell in Moran, Texas. She grew up and graduated from Moran High School in 1946. On May 10, 1947, Polly married Cay Stockton in Abilene. Polly worked at Nancy Smith Elementary School in Albany as a secretary to the principal, then went on to work as a bookkeeper for McCommas Chevrolet and then the Jones Company before her retirement in 1992. She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed working in the yard, fishing and hunting with her husband, Cay. Polly also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Llano and Minnie Mae Mitchell; her husband, Cay Stockton; and one brother, Eugene Mitchell.
She is survived by two children, Richard Stockton and wife Lynda of Moran, and Reginna Agee of Schertz; one sister, Marie Proctor of Odessa; three grandchildren, Misty Clack and husband Chad of Dallas, Stacy Capps and husband Shannon of Texarkana, and Wyatt Agee of Schertz; two great-grandchildren, Colton Capps, and Emma Capps of Texarkana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
